❄ What makes Windsor unique: his beautiful long coat, with white, black, grey and brown tones

Windsor is the handsome gentleman of the shelter! And what a cuddly bear!

Windsor came into our care in the spring of 2025. He had lived his entire life as a stray dog and was relatively happy. He lived at a local bus station and was regularly petted and given attention by some of the passengers. He lived off the food scraps they gave him. It wasn't a comfortable life, but he was relatively safe.

Windsor has a calm and sweet nature and was not a threat or nuisance to anyone. But according to the Turkish “massacre law”, his presence at the bus station was prohibited and he was picked up and taken to the government shelter. An animal lover who knew him told us his story and asked for help, and we couldn't turn this poor boy away.

Now he is safe at the Melez shelter, but you can tell that he is very unhappy living in a shelter. He misses his peace and freedom and longs for a place of his own, without all the other dogs and hustle and bustle around him.

Basically, Windsor is a very easy-going, stable dog. He is calm and friendly, easy to get along with and tolerates everything. He walks well on a leash, is very confident and is not easily frightened by noises or commotion.

He loves to be cuddled and is also very friendly towards new people. He greets everyone calmly but enthusiastically with a wagging tail.

However, he also has a more independent side. Outside the shelter, he is very interested in his surroundings and wants to explore. He pays less attention to you then. And why would you want to go back to that busy shelter when you are having such a good time outside?

Windsor is a social dog who gets along very well with most dogs. He also tolerates young, energetic dogs well, but he finds medium-sized males intimidating and will signal that he wants to be left alone.

Windsor likes to decide for himself where he eats at the shelter. If his food bowl is placed somewhere he doesn't like, he will grab it between his teeth and carefully balance it (so that no kibble falls out) to another spot where he can eat. He enjoys his well-deserved meal in peace! It's a shame he doesn't bring the bowl back and wash it up straight away...

In his kennel, Windsor is calm and stable, happily going about his business, coming over enthusiastically to say hello, and then lying down or playing again. He is very happy when he is taken out of his kennel for a walk. However, when he has to go back into his kennel after the walk, he panics and tries to escape.

We think these escape attempts are purely because he is so unhappy living in a shelter, and that he would not do this in a home. He has lived his entire life on the streets in one place and is loyal to what he considers his “home”. We suspect that if Windsor had his own home, he would be incredibly loyal and truly happy to have a place of his own.

Windsor is truly a dog who would be incredibly grateful to leave the shelter, and we think that in a home he could show a whole new side of himself. He would be much happier and more enthusiastic and would love to walk back to his own home after a walk. So: are you looking for a sweet, loyal, easy-going and stable dog who loves to cuddle and longs for a quiet place of his own? Do you have that place, where he won't have to stay in a kennel and do you enjoy going out with a dog? Then Windsor would be a great dog for you!

Windsor is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the EU/United Kingdom.

Our dogs arrive microchipped, up to date on rabies and combination vaccines, spayed/neutered, dewormed, and flea-treated, and tested for heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania, and Anaplasma.

Before travelling, they see a vet for a final health check. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-rays are taken of any potential problem areas. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated to you beforehand.
