❄ What makes Tootie special: Tootie LOVES cats! As soon as she sees a cat, she wants to cuddle straight away

Tootie arrived in the Melez enclosure in the Autumn of 2023. We were informed by a local animal lover that there was an unwell puppy lying by the side of the road close to the puppy pad. We headed over straight away, only to find that it wasn't a puppy, but a malnourished adult dog in a terrible state. Poor Tootie had mange, was all skin and bones, and was so weak that she struggled to walk properly. She wasn't sure whether she could trust us, but she had no strength left to run away, so she let us pick her up and bring her to the vets, where we found out that she also has an infection.

She clearly hadn't eaten in a long time, and even one small meal made a huge difference in her: she completely lit up and started wagging her tail

Tootie made a full recovery and is now a happy, healthy girl. She has settled in well in the enclosure and is so happy to be safe and well-fed.

Unfortunately, Tootie still carries the fears she had when she was living on the streets with her. When she feels comfortable and safe, she is a happy dog with a sweet character. She is very affectionate and loves getting cuddles and sitting on your lap. She is very loyal towards the people she trusts, and tries to follow us around asking for attention.

Tootie is very scared of strangers and will bark when she sees people she doesn’t know. She is especially scared of men. When female visitors enter her kennel, she barks initially, but will then come up for a sniff and will usually start wagging her tail and asking for pets. When she sees female visitors outside of her kennel, she tried to avoid them and hide. When male visitors enter her kennel, she barks and tries to hide, but after a while she will come up to sniff them. When she sees men outside of the enclosure, she barks at them.

Outside of the enclosure, Tootie is happy to go for walks and walks well on a lead. She likes exploring new areas and sniffing new smells, but is easily spooked when she sees strangers.

Tootie is also insecure around new dogs. She barks when she sees new dogs, but does show interest and will come up to sniff them. After proper introductions, she gets along well with other dogs.

Tootie adores cats and lights up when she sees one! She will go straight over to say hello and tries to play right away.

Tootie needs a calm, stable home with experienced adopters to help her feel safe and gain some self-confidence around new people. She will require time, patience and guidance, but she will be the most grateful dog, and watching her develop and blossom into a happier, more care-free dog, will be an extremely rewarding experience.

By adopting Tootie, you will be transforming her life and helping to show her that the world isn’t such a bad place after all..

Tootie is currently in Turkey, and is ready to travel to the EU / the UK.

Our dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
