❄ What makes Suvi unique: her cute panda eyes!
Suvi came into our care in the spring of 2026. We first spotted Suvi in the government shelter months ago. Most likely she had been abandoned there by her first owners... The next time we visited the shelter, she had been adopted. Athough we were happy for her, we were also anxious. Government shelters have no selection criteria or application processes for adopters. The dogs are free and are handed to anyone who walks in. It is very easy for the poor dogs to fall into the wrong hands...
Unfortunately this is what happened to poor Suvi. A few months after she was adopted, her adopters returned her to the government shelter. After months in a 'home', she was in a state of complete neglect. Her fur was so matted that it had started to cause hairloss in certain areas, and she had hundreds of fleas and ticks crawling all over her.
Her adopters wanted to return her to the government shelter, but we happened to be there when they came to drop her off and offered to take her in. She was spared having to go into the government shelter for a second time, and was able to safely recover in the Melez enclosure.
Suvi is a sweet little dog with two very different sides to her personality: on one hand, she's nervous and withdrawn. On the other, she's cheerful, playful, and sometimes even bubbly and exuberant. Whoever adopts Suvi will, especially at first, mostly meet the nervous, unsure version of her. But with a bit of patience and the right guidance, we believe that nervous side will gradually fade away, letting her cheerful, playful nature shine through more and more. Calmness and routine will play a key role in getting her there.
Suvi finds life in the busy, chaotic shelter really difficult. In her kennel, she's generally withdrawn and watchful. But every now and then, she has a burst of enthusiasm and suddenly bounds over, completely carefree, asking for attention. She almost seems to surprise herself, because just as quickly as she came, she darts back to hide in one of the dog houses. So she clearly wants to play and be given attention, she's just not quite brave enough yet.
Outside the shelter, we see a completely different Suvi. She's still a little on guard, and can be startled by sudden movements, but she's incredibly cheerful, exuberant and enthusiastic, and turns wonderfully playful in an instant. She can entertain herself for ages with toys, gleefully tossing them into the air and then bounding after them herself. She can also be delightfully silly. A completely different dog to the one we see back at the shelter.
Suvi is a gentle, sensitive little dog with a submissive nature. She still has some learning to do when it comes to building full trust with people. One moment, we see a dog who's enthusiastic with everyone she meets; the next, she's back on high alert, easily startled, and suddenly withdrawn, submissive and afraid again. Being put on the lead inside her kennel, for example, makes her quite anxious, but once she's out of the kennel, she trots along cheerfully out front like a little show pony, full of enthusiasm. Her behaviour really shifts depending on the situation
We also see Suvi's gentle nature come through in how she is with other dogs: she's incredibly sweet towards them and gets along well with pretty much every dog. If another dog acts confrontational, Suvi responds submissively, which means she even gets along with some of the least sociable dogs at the shelter. In fact, we have a few dogs who don't seem to like any other dog, except Suvi. That says a lot about her.
Suvi needs a calm, stable home that can offer her plenty of routine and consistency. Her adopters will need to go into this adoption without expectations: Suvi will first and foremost need time to feel safe, before she can begin building trust with them. It's really important that her adopters understand this, and give her the time and space she needs. Rushing things will only slow the process down, while calm and consistency will help her enormously.
With time, patience, peace and quiet, and above all plenty of love, we expect Suvi will blossom into a cheerful, happy and wonderfully affectionate companion, one who's eager to build a lifelong bond with you.
Suvi is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the EU or the UK.
The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
