❄ What makes Smartie special: Smartie is our resident mini-lab! At 17 kg, she is the perfect choice for people who love labradors, but are looking for a slightly smaller dog.
Smartie came into our care in the summer of 2024. She had been found on the streets as a tiny puppy of only a few months old, and already she was deadly ill. She had Ehrlichia, a tick-borne disease which causes anemia. As a young dog with a low immune system, Smartie had no way to fight back against the Ehrlichia and she became very unwell. She was found by animal lovers, who brought her to the vets. Thankfully, Ehrlichia is easily treated and Smartie made a full recovery. Her rescuers took care of her until she had completed her vaccinations and was ready to move in to the Melez enclosure.
Although Smartie had to fight a huge battle for survival very early in her life, she came out the other side a happy, carefree dog, who doesn't carry the scars of her past. She is a fun-loving girl with a bold spirit, and a very trusting, loving nature.
Smartie loves people and she is a very cuddly little girl. She gets so happy whenever she gets some attention! She isn't shy of strangers and excitedly greets everyone she meets. She feels comfortable around both men and women. As long as she is getting attention, Smartie is happy!
Smartie is an energetic young dog with a very playful nature. She spends all her time playing with the other dogs in the enclosure and gets along with everyone in the Melez pack. She isn't scared of new dogs and tries to get every dog she meets to play with her. As a young dog, Smartie also has a mischievous side and we often catch her sneakily running off with a toy she has just stolen... Her adopters should expect lots of cheeky antics from this girl!
Outside of the enclosure, Smartie's happy nature continues and she enjoys going out for walks. She is confident walking on a lead and isn't easily intimidated by noises or movements around her. As a young dog who has grown up in the enclosure, much of the outside world that is still new to her and her adopters will need to slowly build up her exposure to new situations to avoid her becoming overstimulated, but Smartie herself is always up for an adventure!
Smartie is a sweet girl who is sure to bring lots of love and laughter to her home. After all she has been through, she so deserves to feel safe and loved for the rest of her life...
Smartie is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the UK or the EU.
The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
