❄ What makes Romy special: her beautiful brown-blonde coat
We rescued Romy from the municipal shelter in the summer of 2025. When we spotted Romy in the shelter, she had just been rounded up off the streets and had been put in a crowded kennel. In the chaotic environment, all the dogs in her kennel were barking and barking at her, and whilst we were there one of them jumped on top of her and attacked her. Thankfully, the shelter staff were able to pull the dog off her before she got injured. We saw the terror in poor Romy's eyes and knew we couldn't leave her behind.
Now Romy is safe in the Melez shelter, and she's very ready to find her forever home!
With her beautiful brown eyes and gorgeous dark coat, Romy can come across as a real lady. But she's actually a big puppy, who can be quite silly and loves to sit on your lap.
Romy is a sweet, enthusiastic dog, who is very cheerful, and is always ready to jump into your arms. However, she's still young and hasn't seen much of the outside world. New environments and sounds can be daunting for her. She will need help and guidance from her adopter to settle into a home and navigate all the new experiences in her new life.
Romy has a sweet, gentle nature. She wants to do everything right, but still needs guidance to learn how to do so. She's energetic and playful and loves playing with the other dogs in her kennel. She's generally submissive towards other dogs, but can stand up for herself when absolutely necessary. She's good friends with all the other dogs in her kennel, but can be nervous around new dogs.
Since she spent a large part of her life in a shelter, many things in the "outside world" are still new and unfamiliar to Romy. She walks well on a lead, but because she's not very familiar with the "outside world," she can be nervous outside. In quiet environments, she's very enthusiastic and eager to explore, but she's easily startled and doesn't handle crowds or busy environments well. She is nervous around traffic, and when cars drive past she shrinks back and lies down. Busy places like cafés are also very daunting for Romy. She does her best to go along with what's expected of her, but you can tell she's very nervous and stressed.
The one thing she's never afraid of is people. She loves people and loves to cuddle as much as possible. She's so excited when visitors come to the shelter and she can meet new people! Outside, when she's a bit restless and nervous, she seeks out people for reassurance. Even when she's scared, she gets so excited when she sees a passer-by who she can say hello to. Romy thinks she's a lap dog and immediately tries to climb onto your lap the moment you sit down! It doesn't occur to her that, at 20 kilos, she might be a bit too heavy for this. She's completely content on your lap!
Romy has so much love to give, and she would be so happy to be part of a family for the first time in her life! A calm, stable home where she can feel completely safe for the first time would be incredibly beneficial for her. She's a dog who is easily overhwelmed and still has many fears to conquer, and she'll need a lot of guidance from her adopters to build up her self-confidence. But her adopters will receive so much from her in return. You won't find a more grateful, loving dog than Romy!
Romy is currently in Turkey and is available for adoption in the UK and the EU.
Our dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
