❄ What makes Posy special: her adorable grey face
We rescued Posy from the government shelter in the spring of 2025.
Posy spent months in the shelter, but as a quiet, shy little girl, she was constantly overlooked. At some point someone offered to adopt her, but they never showed up to pick her up. Every time we visited the shelter, there were always more desperate cases begging to be saved, whilst Posy quietly sat in a corner, trying to avoid contact with the energetic dogs in her kennel. This time, when we visited the shelter, we saw she was really struggling, and we decided it was her turn to be saved.
Posy had active Ehrlichia, which was causing her to slowly go blind. A blue haze had started developing in her eyes. Luckily, this is easily reversed with an antibiotics treatment, and Posy made a full recovery!
Posy still had her old collar on from when she was abandoned at the shelter by her previous owner. We suspect that her previous owner may have abused her, because although she likes people and happily comes up to say hello to us, she was scared of being touched, and would flinch when we tried to pet her. Although she is a middle-aged dog who had an owner before, it looks like she has never been stroked, petted or cuddled before in her life...
After a few months at Melez, Posy has gained some confidence and she is starting to learn to feel safe around people, but she still has a long way to go before she will be able to fully trust someone. You can tell that she wants to trust people so badly, but she is too insecure to let her guard down at the moment. Posy will now let us pet her and she seems to enjoy getting attention, but too much physical contact still makes her tense. Sudden movements towards her startle her and she gets very stressed when we touch her collar or pick her up. When she gets scared, Posy cries out in terror and tries to run away. She is incredibly gentle and soft-natured and doesn't try to defend herself.
Although Posy doesn't approach strangers, it doesn't take long for her to start to feel comfortable around people. When a visitor took her out of her kennel so she could go for a walk and have some one-on-one time with her, it only took a few minutes for Posy to start to feel bonded with her. Posy happily spent the whole afternoon with the visitor and never left her side. At the end of the afternoon she was very comfortable being petted and seemed to be really enjoying receiving some human affection.
Posy has never had any issues with other dogs in the enclosure and currently lives together with multiple other dogs peacefully, but she keeps to herself and tries to avoid interacting with the other dogs. We feel she would be happiest as an only dog.
Posy has a low energy level and spends most of her time snoozing in the sunshine. Posy would thrive in a calm, quiet household with a stable daily routine and calm, patient adopters, who are willing to give Posy lots of time and space to build up trust with them.
Posy is such a special dog, with the sweetest, most gentle nature, and she so deserves a home where she can finally feel safe and learn what it is like to be loved!
Posy is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the EU or the Uk
The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
