❄ What makes Madgie special: Madgie is severely disabled and has deformed back legs and hips. Multiple vets have been consulted about her case, all agree that treatment is not possible. The best thing we can do for Madgie is give her a comfortable home!
Madgie came into our care in the spring of 2025.
Madgie is one of our recent government shelter rescues. She had been in the government shelter for months, always quietly curled up in a corner of her kennel, but happily wagging her tail when she saw us. When we decided it was her turn to be saved, and she got picked up out of her kennel ,we saw why she was always lying down: Madgie's back legs are severely disfigured, and although she can walk, her legs are completely crooked. We took her straight to the vets, where it turned out that she has hip and knee issues.
Most of this is likely caused by an accident, but malnutrition and her body becoming weaker and weaker had also likely been making things worse. Madgie also had a severe case of mange ,another sign of how weakened her body was. With proper care and nutrition, Madgie has grown into a stronger, healthier, happier dog, who can happily walk and run around, but the disfigurement in her legs will remain for the rest of her life.
Madgie can walk and can even be quite fast when she wants to, but she gets tired easily and can’t do long distances.
Madgie absolutely adores people. She is super cuddly and, if it were up to her, she would spend hours every day happily lying next to you getting attention. She loves belly rubs and will show you her belly straight away to get more. She is also friendly towards new people — as long as they are willing to give her belly rubs, she is happy!
As a disabled dog, Madgie can be nervous around other dogs, as she knows she is weaker. This means that she can be defensive when approached by older dogs, and she clearly communicates when she wants to be left alone. With smaller, calm dogs who she doesn’t see as a threat, she is much friendlier and even tries to play with them.
Madgie barks at cats from the enclosure, but she can be further tested to see if she could share a home with a calm cat.
Madgie walks on the lead, though she can be a bit nervous when it’s busy or chaotic around her, so she prefers calm areas.
The ideal home for Madgie would be a quiet one, with adopters who can offer her a stable daily routine and lots of attention. She would love to be the centre of someone’s universe! A garden would be a plus, as she can’t walk long distances, so long walks aren’t possible for her.
Madgie needs a safe home more than most, and by adopting her you will truly be saving her life!
Madgie is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the EU/the UK
The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
