❄ What makes Lacie unique: her brown eyebrows!

Lacie arrived at our shelter in the spring of 2025.

Lacie came to us from a government shelter in northern Turkey, a conservative area where dogs have little chance of receiving the care they need.

Lacie had just been given up by her family and abandoned at the government shelter when a local volunteer arrived. Small and gentle, poor Lacie was so confused and terrified. She would never have survived there, so the volunteer asked us if we could help her. Lacie made a long journey to get to the Melez shelter. She was so happy to finally be safe!

Lacie is a sweet, polite little dog who tends to take a step back before jumping in. She's the kind of girl who likes to observe before getting involved.

She goes with the flow: if she is approached calmly and cheerfully, she will be calm and cheerful too. But when things get busy and chaotic, she withdraws and you can see her thinking, ‘This is too much for me, I'll come back later when things have calmed down.’

Can you be both curious and shy? Absolutely, Lacie proves it. She will come check out something new, but lets others go first. Smart, right? A perfect blend of caution and curiosity.

The same goes for meeting new people. When visitors arrive at the shelter, Lacie initially keeps her distance while the other dogs rush forward and jump up in excitement. But she is intrigued, and once the noise settles down, you’ll see her come a little closer - quietly, curiously.

And once the ice is broken? That’s when you see the real Lacie. She lights up with joy and becomes so happy to receive your attention. Once she knows you, she’s incredibly affectionate.

She also enjoys calm, respectful children; their gentle presence suits her well.

New dogs can make Lacie a bit nervous. She gets intimidated quickly and prefers to keep her distance at first. But once she’s familiar with another dog, she opens up and happily joins in playtime. In fact, when she feels comfortable, she’ll even join in the more rough-and-tumble games. No problem! It’s only the unknown that gives her pause.

We believe Lacie would do best either as the only dog in the home, or with another calm and social dog who can be her playmate. She loves toys and plays with them in a wonderfully silly, joyful way, full of fun and energy!

Lacie walks nicely on the leash. She’s easygoing and easy to guide. She’s always happy to go out and will gladly join you on little outings. She doesn’t run off on wild adventures, she simply enjoys being by your side.

In short: are you looking for a gentle, soft-hearted, somewhat reserved dog who’s small in size but easy to live with? Are you calm, unhurried, and someone who enjoys peaceful walks and quiet companionship. Then you and Lacie might be the perfect match!

Lacie is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the EU/UK.

The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated to you beforehand.
