❄ What makes Lacie unique: her brown eyebrows!

Lacie arrived at our shelter in the spring of 2025.

Lacie came to us from a government shelter in northern Turkey, a conservative area where dogs have little chance of receiving the care they need.

Lacie had just been given up by her family and abandoned at the government shelter when a local volunteer arrived. Small and gentle, poor Lacie was so confused and terrified. She would never have survived there, so the volunteer asked us if we could help her. Lacie made a long journey to get to the Melez shelter. She was so happy to finally be safe!

Lacie is a sweet and polite, but also somewhat cautious little dog. She likes to wait and see what happens. Figuratively speaking, of course, because when Lacie sees one...

She goes with the flow: if she is approached calmly and cheerfully, she will be calm and cheerful too. But when things get busy and chaotic, she withdraws and you can see her thinking, ‘This is too much for me, I'll come back later when things have calmed down.’

Can you be curious and shy at the same time? Yes, you can, because that's Lacie. She'll definitely come and look at something new, but she'll let others go first. Smart, right, to have both character traits?

The same goes for people she doesn't know. When visitors come to the shelter, Lacie keeps her distance at first, while the other dogs jump up excitedly. But she does find new people interesting, and when things calm down a bit, she comes over to take a curious look.

Once the ice is broken, she is very enthusiastic and loves attention. Once she gets to know you, Lacie is very affectionate.

She enjoys the company of quiet children.

Lacie finds new dogs exciting. She easily feels intimidated and likes to keep her distance. However, once she gets used to another dog, she warms up and loves to play. In fact, she even plays with dogs she knows when things get a little rough. No problem. It's really just the unfamiliar that makes her cautious. She thinks, “I'll see first, then I'll believe.”

We think she would feel comfortable in a home where she is the only dog, or where there is another calm and sociable dog to play with. She loves toys and can play with them very enthusiastically.

Lacie walks calmly on a leash. She is easy-going and easy to handle. She is enthusiastic when she is let out and you can take her anywhere with you. She does not go off on adventures but stays close to you.

In short: are you looking for a sweet, gentle, somewhat cautious dog that is not large but easy to handle? Are you a calm person, not in a hurry but someone who likes to go outside? Then you are a perfect match. Lacie is eagerly waiting for you!

Lacie is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the EU/UK.

The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated to you beforehand.
