❄ What makes Kiwi special: Kiwi gets her name from her kiwi-coloured eyes!
We rescued Kiwi from the government shelter in the summer of 2025. She was abandoned at the government shelter by her previous family because they found her toilet training too difficult. Poor Kiwi had done nothing wrong, and yet she was ripped from her safe home and left in the overcrowded government shelter, surrounded by sick dogs. When we spotted her, we knew she wouldn't be able to last long in these conditions.
Kiwi was so grateful to be saved, and settled in wonderfully in the Melez enclosure.
Kiwi has a super sweet personality, and she is always cheerful and enthusiastic to get cuddles, or to go out for walks and meet new people. But she is still young, and she has a sensitive character. She has seen little of the 'outside world', and many things are still new for her. She has the potential to be a fantastic dog, but she will need some guidance from her adopters to help her to increase her self-confidence.
In the enclosure, Kiwi is a bubbly, energetic, and playful dog. She's always happy and loves playing with the other dogs in her kennel. She fits in well with the pack, and is good friends with her kennelmates. When it comes to meeting new dogs, she can be nervous. She does show interest in new dogs, and you can see that she wants to do well and she sniffs the new dog with curiosity, but she has tension in her body whilst doing so, and you can tell she's nervous.
Outside the enclosure, Kiwi is a cheerful, bouncy ball of excited energy. She enjoys being active, walks well on a lead, and is easy to guide. She's inquisitive and wants to go out and explore, but she doesn't have a lot of self-confidence yet, and even though she's enthusiastic, she does show a slight edge of insecurity. She doesn't panic when there is traffic around, but is a bit wary and looks to you for guidance and reassurance.
Kiwi has visited the local café a few times, and every time, she really enjoyed being out and about and meeting new people (all of whom she charms into getting cuddles), but here, too, you can see that she is a little insecure and that she doesn't feel 100% confident yet. Although she is excited to be exploring a new place, she is also restless and a bit on edge. She constantly seeks reassurance by trying to climb onto your lap.
Kiwi is very sweet with people and loves to cuddle. However, she is easily intimidated by "strange" things—like people wearing hats or using tools. When she is startled, she may bark.
Kiwi is an enthusiastic dog, who is eager to do many things, but she needs calm, patient guidance to learn how to explore the world without feeling nervous. It is very important that her adopters don't try to do too much too quickly with her, or she will become overwhelmed. With the right guidance, and if she is given plenty of time to settle, decompress, and to build up her self confidence, we know that Kiwi will be a wonderfully happy companion to her family.
Kiwi is currently in Turkey and is available for adoption in the EU/the UK
The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
