This sweet, gentle dog in white socks is Jess. She is a bit quiet and reserved in the shelter, but she is very easygoing.

​

 

Jess came into our care in the summer of 2025 after being rescued from a government shelter. She was found in a government shelter in a conservative part of Turkey, where very few people care about dogs. Jess is a gentle, quiet dog, and she doesn't have the fighting spirit a dog needs to survive in a government shelter. Because she couldn't fend for herself, she didn't get enough to eat, and Jess was getting thinner and thinner. It was clear she wouldn't last for much longer.

When a local rescuer saw her wasting away and begged us for help, we couldn't say no.

Jess isn't very confident and tries to remain somewhat anonymous in the hustle and bustle of the Melez enclosure.

Outside the shelter, she seems a bit happier. Jess appears to be very sensitive to her surroundings, and when she's in a quiet environment, she's much more relaxed.

​

Jess is gentle and submissive toward the other dogs in her kennel. She's never had any problems with other dogs and enjoys playing with them. However, because she has her guard up in the enclosure, she doesn't play very often.

​

She does know how to communicate her boundaries though: Every now and then, she'll bark at a dog she finds intimidating. But that's about it. Generally, she's calm and quiet in the group and mostly does her own thing.

​

How she reacts to new people depends very much on her environment. When things get chaotic at the shelter, she prefers to keep her distance and isn't quick to approach new people. During quieter moments, she does come to say a calm and polite hello, softly, but cheerfully, wagging her signature white tip of her tail.

Once she knows you, she loves getting attention and always greets you enthusiastically, this time with a vigorous tail wag.

Jess is incredibly well-behaved. Even when she's scared, she doesn't try to defend herself. At the vets, her tail is tucked tightly between her legs, but she never tries to resist or hide. She walks into the clinic nicely and obediently, then stands still and lets the vet team do everything they need to do without a fight.

​

Even when we take her to places with lots of people, she quietly and obediently does everything that is expected of her. She walks nicely on a lead, doesn't try to pull in any other direction, and follows your lead. You can tell she's uncomfortable, but she doesn't panic. She seems to place her trust in you and trusts that everything will be alright. She's a truly brave lady!

Jess needs a quiet home, with lots of stability and minimal chaos. Because she's so well-behaved and allows everything to happen, she won't always let you know when things are getting too much for her. Her adopter will have to set boundaries for her and protect her to make sure her stress bucket doesn't overflow.

Jess is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the EU of the UK.

The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
