❄ What makes Jake unique: Jake is our most playful dog!
This sweet, sociable, and cheerful dog is Jake. He is by far the most playful dog in the enclosure! He has an incredibly sweet, gentle nature, but also has a mischievous side!
Jake came to us in the summer of 2025 after being rescued from the government shelter. Unfortunately, we don't know anything about his past—whether he ever had a home before, or grew up as a stray.
He ended up in the government shelter in an overcrowded kennel. Since the "Massacre Law" was implemented Turkey, government shelters are so full that there isn't enough food to feed all the dogs. Poor Jake often had to go days without food. He became weaker and weaker and thinner and thinner…
Thankfully, all that is behind him now, and Jake was able to recover safely in the Melez enclosure. Despite everything he's been through, he's a happy, playful boy who loves to play with the other dogs and also loves getting cuddles. He was incredibly grateful to be safe and quickly transformed into a healthy, energetic dog!
Jake is a very social dog. He's very friendly with people and likes everyone. Everyone in the enclosure is greeted enthusiastically, sometimes a little too enthusiastically. He's genuinely so happy to see you! Starting your day with an enthusiastic welcome from Jake is more energising than three cups of coffee!
Jake is very playful and can spend hours playing with the other dogs. He loves running, rolling around, and being goofy. He also enjoys cooling off in the water.
He loves toys and plays with them very enthusiastically.
When he can't find any toys, he'll look for other things to play with, so Jake might even want to chew on your sleeve or nibble on your hair! He's very inventive when it comes to playing!
Jake fits in very well with the group and has lots of friends in the enclosure. He's generally friendly and submissive towards other dogs. He's also happy to share his food with his friends. This is where his sociable nature really shines.
Out of insecurity, he can sometimes be nervous around large male dogs, but this is certainly not always the case. His best friend is Whiskey, who is also a large male in the Melez enclosure. The two have so much fun playing together! They're a real joy to watch.
Generally, Jake is enthusiastic about everything and everyone, but he's still a young dog and many things are new to him.
He also has a very sensitive side. When we took Jake to the vets to have his government shelter eartag removed, he was so scared that for weeks, even leaving the enclosure made him nervous. Thanks to his enthusiastic nature, he does get over scares like this easily, but it's important that his adopter protects his boundaries and ensures his exposure to situations that could be stressful for him happens gradually.
When we take Jake to a busier part of town, he is very well-behaved and happily walks next to us. He is very interested in his surroundings, stays calm, and doesn't act nervous. But every now and then, something can startle him, such as a sudden sound or a movement. When he's startled, he tucks his tail between his legs and takes a few steps back.
If he is able to gradually build up his confidence, we think he'll be able to handle many situations with ease, but it's important that his adopters don't introduce him to all sorts of new situations and environments too quickly.
Jake is an adolescent who needs to learn his boundaries. At his core, he's an incredibly gentle, sweet, and sociable dog. So with some calm, patient guidance, he'll truly become a gem of a dog!

Jake is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the EU of the UK.
The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
