❄ What makes Glenda unique: Glenda has a bad back leg, which is a result of an old injury. She uses her leg approximately 60% of the time. The leg doesn't cause her any pain, and there are no further treatment options for the leg in Turkey.

 

Glenda is one of our government shelter rescues. She came to us from a government shelter in north east Turkey, an area where there are no animal rescue charities to help dogs, only a handful of animal lovers trying to make a difference. Hunting is very common in this area, and the government shelters are full of abandoned hunting dogs. With no big local charities in the area, the dogs have almost no hope of a better life.

Poor Glenda really struggled in the government shelter, and became completely malnourished. Who knows how much longer she would have been able to hold on for if she hadn't been rescued...

Glenda also has an injury in one of her back legs. We later found out that she had been hit by a car, and her owner abandoned her at the government shelter when her leg didn't get better, and he couldn't use her for the hunt anymore.

Despite a leg that doesn't quite work the way it should, Glenda is an incredibly sweet, cheerful dog who tackles life with real enthusiasm. She only puts weight on that leg around half the time. Vets believe a brace might help her, but beyond that and physiotherapy, there don't appear to be any other treatment options available. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to source a suitable brace for her here in Turkey, but how wonderful would it be if we could find adopters for Glenda who'd be willing to work with specialist vets to explore a solution for her leg. That really would be the dream!

 

Glenda is very much a people-focused dog. We know she had an owner before, and despite being abandoned by that very person, she remains just as enthusiastic about people as ever. In fact, her capacity for forgiveness is remarkable: despite everything she's been through, she trusts everyone she meets, completely and without hesitation. She's cheerful and full of excitement whenever she meets someone new, and is endlessly sweet, affectionate and cuddly once you're close.

 

Not even the bars of her kennel can stop Glenda from getting her cuddles. Whenever someone stands outside, she presses herself right up against the fence and stretches her nose out as far as she can, determined to get as much affection as possible despite the obstacle in her way. We call her a real cuddle-bug. Whenever someone walks into the shelter, she's eager to say hello and ask for a cuddle. Despite her leg, she comes bounding over enthusiastically to greet you. She's always so happy to see you.

 

The moment the door opens, nearly every dog in the shelter gets excited and rushes over to greet you, it's complete chaos in the best way. But once the other dogs settle down, Glenda seizes her moment: she plants herself right in front of you, gazing up with those big, pleading eyes of hers, and then sits perfectly still for as long as you'll let her, soaking up every bit of fuss and affection you give her. That look of hers is genuinely impossible to resist.

 

In these moments, she can get a little possessive and isn't always keen on sharing the attention with other dogs. If another dog tries to muscle in, she'll send them packing without a second thought, she makes her boundaries very clear.

 

At other times, though, she gets along just fine with the other dogs and fits into the group easily. She'll happily play with them, but it's clear people are her real priority; she's perfectly fine having other dogs around, she just doesn't feel much need to interact with them. People are who she's really after.

Glenda is an easy-going, upbeat dog who's cheerful and full of energy. Even though that one leg lets her down from time to time, she's fit and lively, and we think she'd love going on plenty of walks with her adopters.

​

She's also completely obsessed with water, and spends most of the summer parked in the water tubs around the shelter. She's not one for splashing about, she simply settles in calmly, keeping a watchful eye over the whole shelter as she soaks. She can happily sit there for ages, perfectly content. Who needs a spa day when you've got a water tub and zero responsibilities?

More than anything, Glenda longs for a family of her own. People who love her and want to bring her along wherever they go, so she truly belongs. People she can be herself with, who love her exactly as wholeheartedly as she loves them.

​

It feels deeply unfair that her leg should stand between her and a home of her own. We really hope someone out there is ready to give Glenda the loving home she deserves. You won't easily find a dog more grateful, or more affectionate, than Glenda.​

Glenda is currently in Turkey and is available for adoption in the UK and the EU.

 

Our dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
