❄ What makes Gilly special: Gilly has a signature move: showing you her belly!
Gilly came into our care in the summer of 2022, when she was a young puppy. She was only a few months old, but already she had had to face the harsh reality of being a stray dog: she was hit by a car, but luckily wasn't seriously injured, and she had caught Distemper.. Thankfully, she made a full recovery and grew up in the Melez enclosure.
Gilly is one of the most soft-natured dogs you will ever meet. Quiet, gentle and sweet, she is easily overlooked in the crowded enclosure, which is a shame because she has so much love to give!
Although she can be a little shy and insecure, Gilly loves people and she loves nothing more than getting belly rubs! When people enter her kennel, she tends to hang back whilst the other, more boisterous, dogs rush up to greet the visitors. Gilly patiently waits her turn, but is friendly and happy when people approach her. Her signature move is lying in the middle of the kennel on her back to ask you for belly rubs!
Because Gilly grew up in the Melez shelter, she has seen little of the outside world, and with her shy nature, she can be easily overwhelmed. She walks on the lead on a harness, but prefers to stay in quiet areas, and will lie on the floor and freeze if she gets scared by a loud noise or sudden movement. With the right guidance, Gilly should be able to build up her self-confidence and make lots of progress with feeling more comfortable being out and about.
Gilly gets along wonderfully with other dogs and is friends with all the other dogs in her kennel. Having another social and confident dog in her home to help her adapt and settle would really benefit her.
Gilly has a medium energy level, and although she is still a young dog who enjoys playing with other dogs and toys, she is relatively calm and quiet for her age.
Gilly's most quirky trait is that she loves showing everyone her belly! During calm moments in the enclosure, you can often spot Gilly quietly lying on her back in the sunshine doing some belly tanning! Showing you her belly is also her secret weapon to get people to come over and give her attention. When out for a walk, when she gets too scared to keep on walking, she lies down and shows you her belly to try to ask for reassurance. It's her signature move!
Gilly is such a sweet dog, who really deserves to be able to leave the crowded enclosure and live a more quiet, peaceful life. She would thrive in a calm home, with loving , patient adopters who can help her feel safe and confident.
Could you be the one to give Gilly the life she so deserves?
Gilly is currently in Turkey and is available for adoption in the UK and the EU.
