❄ What makes George special: his beautiful freckles
George came into our care in the beginning of 2025. We rescued him from the local government shelter after all municipalities in Turkey had been given an extra mandate for all street dogs to be removed from the streets and crammed into kennels in government shelters.
George was stuck in a crowded kennel with larger, stronger dogs. As the weakest dog of the group, he was absolutely terrified and he spent every day curled up in a corner, trying to be invisible to the other dogs. Unable to defend himself, he had to watch as the stronger dogs got all the food, and he was left with hardly anything. He became very malnourished. When we spotted him, trying to hide in his corner, with a look of fear and desperation in his eyes. We knew we couldn't leave him behind.
George has now fully recovered from his ordeal. He has gained weight and is no longer a scared, sad dog. But he struggles with life in the busy Melez enclosure, and desperately wants to leave.
The George we see in the enclosure and the George we see outside the enclosure are two very different dogs. The stress of life in a crowded environment is really affecting George and he fades into the background. Outside of the enclosure, we see a very different dog! George loves being taken out for walks and he transforms into a happy, easy-going dog as soon as he gets to leave his kennel. He shows you his gratitude for being taken out of his kennel by constantly looking up and you and excitedly wagging his tail. He is confident on the lead and likes going out to explore. He isn't intimidated by going to new places or by loud sounds.
In the enclosure George can be nervous around other male dogs, but outside of the enclosure he happily approaches every dog he sees and shows interest in getting to interact with other dogs.
George loves people and he has so much love to give. He likes meeting strangers and isn't scared of men. He happily says hi to everyone he meets! In the enclosure, he can be nervous and he is easily startled when someone makes a sudden move towards him. It is possible that he has been hit by people before. Outside of the enclosure he appears much more comfortable and isn't as easily startled.
George would thrive in a calm, stable household. We think he would be happiest as an only dog, but would enjoy getting to play with other dogs when out for walks. He would love being able to spend lots of time with his family and would be so happy to have a comfortable bed of his own...

George is currently in Turkey and is available for adoption in the UK and the EU.
Our dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
