❄ What makes Felix special: Felix was hit by a car and broke his hip, but he never let this get him down! He was a happy boy throughout his recovery and managed to make a full recovery without needing surgery. Most of the time, his old injury doesn't bother him at all, but occassionally he will hold up his leg for a few seconds. The vet expects he will regain 100% full use of the leg, but he is more likely to develop arthritis and supplements such as glucosamine will help him live more comfortably.
Felix spent his whole life living on a farm, where he was allowed to roam freely both on the farm lands, and on the street. He wasn't allowed inside the house, and didn't have a soft bed, but he was relatively safe. Then one day when he was roaming the streets, he got hit by a car and broke his hips. His family couldn't be bothered to bring him to the vets, so they asked us to take him off their hands. Thankfully, Felix's injuries were minor and the broken bones healed naturally, without the need for surgery.
Felix gets his name from the fact that he absolutely loves to sit on your lap and cuddle. Nothing makes him happier than burying his head into your lap and snuggling in your arms, just like a cat!
Felix really enjoys attention both inside and outside the enclosure. Whenever he sees people, he gets really excited. Whether it's by wagging his tail or standing on his hind legs, he makes sure you just have to give him attention!
He walks very confidently on a lead. He's not at all afraid of noises or traffic.
At the beginning of a walk, he sometimes pulls on the lead, but that's out of enthusiasm. He quickly settles down and isn't afraid of anything or anyone outside. Going out for walks with Felix is a joy.
There are other areas where Felix is a bit less confident: Felix is afraid of bigger dogs. As long as they're the same size or smaller than him, he feels comfortable. But as soon as dogs larger than him come near him, he gets nervous and can bark out of insecurity.
Life in the enclosure, surrounded by dogs of all different sizes, is therefore stressful for Felix. We can see that he is overstimulated in this crowded environment. There's a lot going on around him, so he's constantly distracted by everything that is happening. This doesn't help with his confidence. He would so happy to find a calm, quiet place to call home.
You can see that Felix isn't (yet) used to being indoors. As confident as he is outside, once he is indoors, he becomes uncertain and insecure. At the vets or in a cozy café, you see a completely different dog than the Felix out on a walk: he crouches down, tail tucked between his legs, and prefers to hide under a chair. Encouragement doesn't really help in these situations, although he does respond with a small, nervous wag of his tail. You really need to give him time to adjust and allow him to come out when he's ready. His adopters will need to dedicate time and attention to this.
In short: Felix is a sweet, energetic, beautiful black dog who's very adventurous. He walks well on a lead and loves going out with you.
He would be happiest in a home where he's the only dog, with adopters who have the patience to help him adjust to home life and are willing to help him build his confidence around other dogs. So that Felix can learn to be his happy, carefree self both indoors and outdoors. You won't find a more grateful companion than Felix!
Felix is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the EU/the UK
The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
