Story
We rescued Domino from the government shelter in the summer of 2026. He is a middle-aged dog who most likely had a home before, but was abandoned in the shelter when he needed help the most. Domino has an old hip injury. X-Rays show that he had a broken hip and was operated on. Unfortunately, it is taking him a long time to recover, and doesn't yet use his leg 100%. We suspect that his family abandoned him at the government shelter when he didn't recover well from the operation, because they didn't want to have to spend more money on him. When he needed care, comfort and love, his family left him in a place where no-one would care about him and no-one would give him the care and treatment he needed.
Character
Domino's generally well-behaved, does what's asked of him, and everyone gets a warm, tail-wagging welcome. He's not shy around strangers, and as long as cuddles are on offer, he's a happy dog.
At his age, he has no time for the chaotic energy of hyperactive young dogs in the shelter, and he's not a fan of busy kennel life. But don't let that fool you: Domino is far from an old man who's lost his zest for life. He still thoroughly enjoys himself and loves nothing more than being out and about.
Behaviour With People
Domino is easygoing and not the least bit anxious. He's generally well-behaved and does what's asked of him, and he adores people: everyone gets a warm, tail-wagging welcome. He's not shy around strangers, and as long as cuddles are on offer, he's a happy dog.
He's a bit more reserved with other dogs. When he first arrived at the shelter, he found other dogs annoying and wanted nothing to do with them. By now he's settled in well: he doesn't seek out contact himself, but he's completely fine with other dogs being around. He also has no trouble with a dog walking alongside him, and meeting new dogs and giving them a quick greeting on walks is no problem at all.
Domino loves walking and is over the moon whenever he gets to leave the kennel for a stroll! The second he hears the leash, he's ready to go. His enthusiasm might mean a bit of pulling at first, since dawdling just isn't his style, but he settles quickly and happily sniffs his way around, content as can be. Other than that, he walks nicely on the lead.
Domino's hip was broken in the past. It's been surgically repaired and has healed well, though he doesn't use it at full strength just yet. When walking normally, he uses it completely and you'd never notice anything, but if he picks up the pace, he'll sometimes hold that leg up for a moment. Our vet expects him to regain full use of it over time.
Ideal Home
Domino isn't a demanding dog. A cozy bed in a quiet spot, in a stable home, with someone who loves to cuddle and enjoys long walks together, that's all it takes for a perfect match. Could that be you?
Domino is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the EU or the UK.
Every Melez Dog Comes Prepared
The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
