❄ What makes Dante special: Dante has the cutest smile!​

We rescued Dante from the government shelter in the Spring of 2026. We spotted him in a crowded kennel with a panicked, terrified look in his eyes. He was clearly extremely stressed in the packed kennel, surrounded by stronger dogs. The look in his eyes broke our hearts, and we decided we couldn't leave him behind.

​

Dante is a sensitive, gentle dog who genuinely wouldn't hurt a fly. He's incredibly sweet, but the world can feel a bit overwhelming for him at times, which sometimes leaves him feeling unsure of himself and on edge.

​

Once he feels safe and comfortable, though, he's an absolute joy: cheerful, playful, and always up for a game with other dogs. He's wonderfully friendly with people too, and is always thrilled to see you. He'll come trotting over, tail wagging, and flop down to show off his belly for some attention. That pleading look of his goes a long way too, it's honestly hard to resist.

Unfortunately, the busy shelter isn't an easy place for Dante. All that constant stimulation is simply too much for him. To cope, he's come up with his own solution: he usually hides away in a big hole that the dogs have dug together. If you're looking for him, you'll pretty much need to stick your head into the hole and call his name to coax him out. The lovely part is that whenever you do call him, he always comes bounding over enthusiastically, which tells you he feels safe enough to trust you. Mealtimes are another reliable way to get him out of hiding, that's one moment he never misses.

Dante is generally very sociable with other dogs, and fits into the group easily. Big or small, male or female, it makes no difference to him, everyone's welcome to be his friend, and he gets along beautifully with all the other dogs at the shelter. He really is friends with everyone.

​

Dante would do well with a calm, sociable dog in his new home to help him feel more confident. That said, he'd also do just fine as an only dog, as long as his adopters give him plenty of attention and guidance.

​

It took a while, but Dante has since learned to walk nicely on the lead. He found it quite daunting at first, but he really worked at it, which says a lot about how trainable he is.

​

He still startles easily. When that happens, he'll either drop to the ground or leap anxiously into your arms, clinging to you for comfort and reassurance. Busy environments with lots of traffic and noise are simply too much for him to handle.

​

Plenty of calm, routine, and a peaceful environment: those are the key ingredients for a good life with Dante. He needs a place where he can truly learn to feel safe, allowing his confidence to grow and his fears to fade. That takes time, which is why we're looking for adopters who have the time, and are willing to take the time, to help Dante settle in properly. He'll need to adjust to his new world gradually, and everything will need to happen at a very gentle pace.

It's important to go into this adoption without high expectations: in the beginning, what Dante needs most is calm and space, without any pressure. From there, step by step and entirely at Dante's own pace, you can start exploring the world together. Anyone considering adopting him should keep this in mind.

With his sweet, enthusiastic nature and his love of people, we believe Dante has real potential to learn and grow. Given enough time and patience, we think he'll become a dog who truly savours life, and who wakes up genuinely happy every single day.

Dante is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the EU or the UK.

The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
