❄ What makes Josie special: her pointy ears

Josie has been in the Melez enclosure since the spring of 2023. She was surrendered to us along with her mother Dido and sister Rosie. They were unwanted because they are female. In rural communities in Turkey, having to get females spayed is seen as a big inconvenience, and isn't something people want to invest in, so getting a male dog is seen as an easier option. As the dogs are kept outdoors, they are usually able to interact with street dogs, and if a female ends up pregnant this is a hassle for the owner, whereas if a male runs off and gets a street dog pregnant they feel that this is not the owner's problem..

Dido was living on a farm, where she kept on getting pregnant. She gave birth to multiple litters before her owner got fed up and gave her to me with her two remaining female puppies. Dido and Rosie found their forever homes, and now we hope it will be Josie's turn!

Josie is a shy, delicate little girl who would really benefit from a calm home environment where she can lean to feel completely safe and can build up her self-confidence. She is very gentle and soft-natured and is easily spooked. She will need a quiet environment, stability and consistency and lots of loving guidance to overcome her timidness and learn to live a happy, care-free life.

 

Once she gets to know you, Josie is a happy girl who loves coming up for cuddles and really looks to her trusted human for support and guidance. But it takes a while for her to build up proper trust and to to realise that she doesn't need to be scared. She is wary of strangers, but shows interest and after some cautious sniffing she will let herself be pet. However, she is easily startled by sudden movements.

 

Josie gets along great with other dogs and would be happiest with another, stable dog in the home who can show her the ropes and be her play mate. She is very friendly when meeting new dogs. She is very playful and loves running and playing with other dogs. 

 

Josie walks well on the lead with a harness on and enjoys going out for walks. She is very interested in new smells and places and loves exploring, but is easily spooked by sounds and movements. She would enjoy being able to go on lots of walks in quiet areas.

We are looking for a calm, stable home for Josie, with patient, understanding adopters who can help her build her self-confidence and enable her to be the playful, carefree dog she has the potential to be. Could you be one to help Josie finally feel fully safe and secure?

Josie is currently in Turkey and is available for adoption in the EU/the UK

The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
