Defne is a sweet, gentle little girl with a happy personality and a mischievous side, who lots of love to give!
Defne arrived in our care in the Summer of 2023.
In Turkey many dog owners are against neutering or spaying their dogs. They either find it too expensive (and can't be bothered to bring their dog to the government shelter to be fixed for free), want their dog to have puppies 'because puppies are cute' , or feel it is cruel to take away a dog's 'right to be a mother'. Because most dogs are kept outdoors, they are often come in contact with street dogs and female dogs frequently end up getting pregnant. Dog owners are left with litters of puppies that no-one wants, because the demand for dogs is so low in Turkey.
This is exactly what happened to Defne and her siblings. Their mother's owner was careless enough to not get her fixed and let her interact with street dogs, so she ended up pregnant. They found the puppies cute at first, but when they couldn't find homes for them, the puppies quickly became a burden. They were going to abandon them at the government shelter (an automatic death sentence for small puppies), when an animal lover intervened and asked me to take them.
Defne and her sisters had done nothing wrong, but were about to pay the price for human carelessness.
Defne grew up in the Melez shelter and is now a lovely young dog of approximately 10 months old. She is almost fully grown and weighs only 7 kg.
Defne is an energetic, playful dog with a happy nature. As is normal for her age, she has a mischievous side. Because she grew up in the Melez shelter, she has seen little of the outside world, and she can be a little insecure in new situations and environments. But her curiosity soon gets the better of her and with a bit of reassurance she really enjoys going out exploring! She walks well on the lead and doesn't pull.
Having grown up surrounded by other dogs, Defne is very dog social and lots playing with the other dogs in the enclosure! She would be very happy to live with other dogs in her home. She is also very friendly towards people. She is very affectionate and will always excitedly run up to us to ask for cuddles. She looks to people for reassurance when she feels insecure. She likes meeting new people and getting attention from them.
Defne is a sweet girl and a gentle soul, who would thrive in a calm, stable home, where she gets lots of opportunity to get cuddles from her family and to spend time playing with other dogs. Could you offer Defne her forever home?
Defne is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the UK or the EU.
The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
