Verhaal
Disney arrived in the Melez enclosure in the winter of 2023 after being rescued by a local animal lover.
Disney was living in the industrial estate on the outskirts of the city. She was looked after by business owners there, who cared enough about her to feed her, but didn't think to get her spayed and watched her have litter after litter of puppies, which they brought to the government shelter, unaware that this is an automatic death sentence for young dogs. This cycle continued until a local animal lover found out about Disney and asked me for help.
When Disney arrived in the enclosure, she was pregnant again, but after having had pregnancy after pregnancy, she had developed pyometra and her uterus was so severely infected that her newly developing babies were already dying. She had to have an emergency surgery to save her life. Her uterus, along with the dead babies, was removed and she was spayed. After this ordeal, she could finally leave her old life behind her and settle into life in the enclosure.
Karakter
Disney is a social dog with a sweet, cheerful character. She is pretty easy-going and obediently lets herself be led when out for walks. She jumps into the car by herself and happily looks out the window whilst being driven around. She adapts well to new surroundings.
Gedrag bij mensen
Although she is social and enjoys interacting and playing with other dogs, the shelter is too crowded and chaotic for Disney and she can usually be found by herself in a quiet corner. She gets along with dogs of all sizes and ages and we think she would be very happy in a home with another social dog, or as an only dog with the opportunity to play with other dogs when out for walks. Disney's energy level is medium and in between playing with other dogs, she enjoys snoozing in her quiet corner.
Disney loves people and is always happy to greet anyone who comes into the shelter. She is very friendly towards strangers and likes both men and women. She loves getting pets and cuddles, but isn't very needy and doesn't need constant attention.
Ideaal huis
We think Disney may have some trauma from her old life, and specifically movements towards her head, and being picked up, scare her. When she feels insecure, Disney can act defensive. She responds well to calm, loving reassurance, but her adopters will have to make sure that her stress levels are managed well during her settling in period.
Disney is a wonderful dog, who really deserves a happy life in a home. Could you be the one to give her the life she so deserves?

De honden worden bij aankomst in hun nieuwe thuis gechipt, zijn volledig gevaccineerd tegen rabiës en een combinatievaccinatie, gesteriliseerd/gecastreerd, ontwormd en ontvlooid en getest op hartworm, ehrlichiose, leishmaniasis en anaplasma. Voordat ze vertrekken, bezoeken de honden de dierenarts voor een laatste gezondheidscontrole. Indien nodig worden hun tanden gereinigd en röntgenfoto's gemaakt van eventuele probleemgebieden. Eventuele zorgen of potentiële gezondheidsproblemen waarvan wij op de hoogte zijn, zullen we vooraf met u bespreken.
