❄ What makes Sugar special: Her gorgeous amber eyes
Sugar was found on the streets in the winter of 2025. She was alone and confused, and was desperately looking for someone to save her. She had followed a group of olive pickers, hoping that they would take her home. But when their work was done, they left Sugar to fend for herself. She found her way to the home of a few animal lovers, and when she saw how kind these people were to her, she didn't want to leave. She wanted to be safe so badly, to just have a family to belong to!
Unfortunately, these people could not keep her, so they asked us for help.
Sugar is a young, sweet dog with a very gentle character. She has a lot of potential to be a very easy-going, cheerful dog with the right guidance.
She finds everything very interesting and fun, but she is young and has seen very little of the world. Sugar can feel uncomfortable in new situations and can be startled easily.
As long she's in control and going about living her life at her own pace, she is very enthusiastic, cheerful, and feels ready to take on anything.
Sugar is a social dog who fits in well with the group at the shelter. She is energetic and playful, and has many friends. Despite her short legs, she is very athletic and knows how to climb onto every doghouse at the shelter. From the roof, she has a good overview over the shelter!
Sugar is very friendly towards people. She greets everyone with an enthusiastic wag of her tail. She likes getting attention and enjoys asking for it. However, if she gets startled, for example by fast movements or unexpected noises, she quickly withdraws. She is very submissive in this regard. She doesn't get defensive, but will lie down to show her belly.
Sugar gets along well with dogs she knows, but finds new dogs intimidating. She is nervous when meeting new dogs, especially if they are taller.
Outside of the shelter, she is enthusiastic but a bit insecure when she sees smaller dogs. She approaches the dog submissively but cheerfully and tries to play immediately.
With larger dogs, she gets more nervous and prefers to avoid contact. If contact cannot be avoided, she adopts an extremely submissive stance by showing her belly, wagging her tail fretfully, or trying to lick the dog's face. This is a very polite way for her to express her nervousness, but they are clear indications that she is uncomfortable.
Her adopter will need to manage these kinds of situations to prevent her from becoming overstimulated.
She walks very well on the lead and loves going out for walks. She pays close attention to you and likes making eye contact. She doesn't mind meeting people on her walk or normal traffic, but she doesn't have much experience with very busy environments.
Sugar is playful and can also be mischievous. For instance, she is always the first to stick her nose into the bag of kibble. Why wait politely for your turn until the food is distributed in the bowls?! She prefers to go for it right away.
With her cheerful, enthusiastic character and her social, gentle personality, Sugar truly has the potential to be a very easy-going dog who can handle anything in life without any problems.
We are looking for adopters who want to build a bond with Sugar with patience to help grow her self-confidence.
She can already do many things and her adopters certainly won't have to build everything from scratch, but it is important for her to be trained at her own pace. We believe rushing through this phase will make her insecurity worse instead of better.
Sugar is a diamond in the rough – she has a lot of potential and can already be very happy and enjoy life, and with the right guidance, we know that she will fully blossom into a cheerful, self-confident little dog. Her adopters will have a very sweet, affectionate, and grateful companion in her!
Sugar is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the UK or the EU.
The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
