❄ What makes Oona special: Oona is one of Melez' best singers, and always cries along enthusiastically with the call to prayer from the mosque!

Oona is a middle-aged dog who has clearly had a lot to endure. A few years ago, she ended up in a government shelter, where no one wanted to adopt her. Eventually, she was released back onto the streets. For the last few years, she had to survive on the streets, even though she is actually a gentle, quiet, and very shy dog, without any fighting instinct to protect herself. It is a miracle that she lasted this long.

Fortunately, she was noticed by an animal lover who felt she deserved a better life, and that is how she ended up with us. Oona has been brought to the Melez shelter in 2025. It took a very long time for her to settle in properly and start trusting us. After a month, we saw her wag her tail for the first time, and it took weeks before she trusted us enough to let herself be petted.

Oona is a good dog to her core and wants nothing more than to live a peaceful and safe life.

She can be described in a few words: gentle, quiet, and above all, very sweet.

She is a very calm dog who is incredibly well-behaved and requires little, but also has few expectations.

She is not a dog that constantly needs challenges and adventure. Give her a stable, quiet environment where she can feel safe and at ease, and Oona will be happy!

After years as a 'neighbourhood dog'—living on the street where she was fed by local residents—Oona is well accustomed to life on the street. Consequently, she has a fair amount of self-confidence outdoors, walks happily on the leash, and loves being taken for walks. She isn't easily startled by things outside and takes things as they come, but she prefers walking in nature and quiet places to busy environments.

Oona is very friendly and gentle towards other dogs. She gets annoyed by boisterous dogs, but she gets along incredibly well with calm dogs. She is also sweet to cats. In fact, she is friendly to everything and everyone.

Oona's biggest challenge is her lack of trust in people. That really takes time and effort. We're happy to say we managed to win her trust and make her feel at ease.

She is shy around new people. While one dog might immediately feel comfortable after a single petting session, it took weeks for Oona before we were allowed to pet her. And then another 1-2 months until she really enjoyed being petted and came to ask for attention on her own. She now comes to us for attention, happy and whilst wagging her tail. This is a promising positive development. She has been in the shelter for over 6 months at the time of writing this, and for the past few weeks she has suddenly started showing her playful side and really enjoys playing with toys and other dogs. We are delighted to see her character develop positively and we can't wait to see her undergo a full transformation once she's in a stable home!

In short, Oona is a dog who primarily needs a lot of time and patience to get used to new people and situations.

She is the sweetest, gentlest, friendliest dog, who wouldn't hurt a fly.

With Oona, you don't have to expect intense or difficult behaviour. She's not likely to show destructive behaviour, you don't have to expect a barking concert when you have visitors, and she is not a dog that will challenge you or push boundaries. Even when she is scared, she quietly allows everything, and she never tries to defend herself.

But what Oona needs is time. Her adopters will need to appreciate that it might take months for her to show her full character and be able to be completely herself. It is very important that her adopters grant her this time and do not try to rush her development. If she has her own, safe space and is given the peace and time to settle in at her own pace, we know that she can be a true lover of life and that you will be welcoming a wonderful dog into your life!

Oona is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the EU or the UK.

The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
