❄ What makes Della special: Della is blind in one eye, a result of trauma to the head. Her eye is not treatable and it doesn't cause her any discomfort.
Della came to us in early 2024.
Della was living by the side of a busy road, where she had probably been abandoned by her owners with her collar still on. She was most likely hit on the head when she was abandoned, causing her to go blind in one eye. A local animal lover was feeding her, but she was terrified of all the cars racing past and wasn't sure who she could trust, and she had started losing weight.
It was clear she wasn't going to be able to survive on the streets, so the animal lover feeding her asked me to take her in.
Now she has fully settled in to life in the Melez enclosure, Della is thriving. She is a sweet girl with a soft, gentle nature and a huge heart, with lots of love to give!
Della absolutely adores people. She is extremely affectionate and wants lots of attention and cuddles. She is very happy and excited when meeting new people and asks for belly rubs straight away. She gets along well with everyone: women, men and children. When we are in the enclosure, Della will not leave our side and jumps up and clings on to us begging for more attention. She really craves a family of her own, and she would be so happy to be adopted by people who spend lots of time at home and can give her all the love and affection she wants so badly.
Della is a social dog who is friendly when interacting with cats outside of the enclosure. New dogs make her nervous and she may bark at them. Once she is used to the other dog, she is very friendly and easy-going and she is a well-integrated part of the Melez pack, although she doesn't interact with the other dogs much.
Outside of the enclosure, Della walks well on the lead and is confident and happy to go out exploring. She remains very people-focused even in busy surroundings.
Della's eye isn't treatable, but it doesn't cause her any pain. Sudden movements around her blind side do make her jumpy though, and she is very sensitive when it comes to the eye being touched. We have consulted multiple vets, who have all recommended that the eye does not have to be removed, but we are happy to discuss her situation in more detail with potential adopters and their vets. If they would prefer for the eye to be removed, this is something we can arrange in Turkey before Della travels.
Della is currently in Turkey and is ready to travel to the UK or the EU.
The dogs arrive in their homes microchipped, up to date on their Rabies and Mixed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, dewormed and deflead and tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Leishmania and Anaplasma. The dogs visit the vets for a final health check before they travel. If needed, their teeth are cleaned and X-Rays are taken of any potential areas of concern. Any concerns or potential health issues we are aware of will be communicated with you beforehand.
